Saturday Siren
A Poem
Saturday Siren by Kelly Hellmuth
Saturdays are for Classic car shows Treasure hunting for new-to-you-old-things The smell of fresh cut lawn Red dirt swept porches And prom prep Baby birthday parties With sugar laden smash cakes Propelling the guest of honor Straight through nap time Stolen kisses with the missus As you tackle to dos Like ships passing in the night Theater practice Grocery trips Stocking the shelter And prepping the pool Throwing open windows To let in the breath Cottonwood snow be damned. All of this happens As the sirens sound at noon Letting you know that today... Everything is just fine.
If you’ve ever visited Oklahoma City on a Saturday, you might find yourself slightly panicked when the tornado sirens sound at noon on a clear, cool day in April. (Or a scorching, hot July one.)
Rest assured, if you’re hearing them on Saturday, then that means all is well.
Blessings, friends.

This poem continues to delight me.
I probably would panic. 😅 But this is absolutely delightful!
