It appears we share a common ear, though I confess my response to Derek is not to seek an apology, but to punch him in the nose! Truth is, apart from curiosity, I keep his music from the last decade at arms length, out of a blend of holy fear, and self protection. I see in it a seduction. There are too many forces warring against my orthodox soul, and I sometimes feel the siren call. So I avoid this more obvious source of contention.

I haven't listened to his work from the past ten years in quite some time. I don't know if you know where he currently stands, but it's an interesting place for sure. The Songs that Made Me EP tore me to pieces (and continually does so). I see a person in deep turmoil who is hopefully moving toward redemption, and it gives me hope.

I will definitely take all of this into consideration. My perspective must be a little dated. 💔

Kelly, I just turned to The Songs that Made Me, and see it was released in 2021. (though I am familiar with most of these songs from other iterations. To be honest, it is hard to make sense of this beautiful collection against where Derek has been in the last years.

I would not rain on your parade, nor snuff a smoldering flame, but Derek has, in my humble opinion, ventured into dark, dark places, most evident in the last couple of years.

(As is, i do not know where you fall in the sexual-ethic culture wars, but here is a link, which holds a link to one of Derek's more recent videos: Boys will be Girls. I find it distressing. (He followed this release by showing up in Drag at the Dove Awards, which I read as war against the good.)
